Data Identification

Abstract: Surface samples 2-3 cm in depth were collected along transects in a lowland area and a polar desert area at Alexandra Fiord and along a transect at Truelove. Samples were shipped to UNBC where they were prepared to a standard size (0.0019625 m2, 1 cm depth) and given a pretreatment of optimal temperature and hydration for 5 days. Acetylene reduction assays were conducted under optimal conditions for 6 hrs.
Purpose: Determination of N2-fixation rates of surface samples including lichens, biological soil crusts and bryophytes. The data will be used to examine the role of N inputs via biological N2-fixation within Arctic N cycling.
